Music legend Freddy Fender diagnosed with cancer

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP): Music legend Freddy Fender has been diagnosed with incurable cancer after tests showed he has several tumors on his lungs.

“I feel very comfortable in my life,” Fender told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. “I’m one year away from 70 and I’ve had a good run. I really believe I’m OK. In my mind and in my heart, I feel OK. I cannot complain that I haven’t lived long enough, but I’d like to live longer.”

Fender started his career in the late 1950s and hit the Billboard charts with “Before The Next Teardrop Falls,” “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights,” and “You’ll Lose A Good Thing.”

NASCAR’s Parsons Diagnosed With Cancer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)- Former NASCAR champion Benny Parsons has been diagnosed with lung cancer and began chemotherapy treatments Wednesday.

Parsons, the 1973 Cup champion and currently a NASCAR commentator on NBC and TNT, was diagnosed two weeks ago after he had trouble breathing.

Judy Rankin has cancer

Judy Rankin, a Hall of Famer and golf analyst with ABC Sports, has breast cancer and is undergoing treatment that will keep her out of work for an indefinite period.

“I’m not sick,” she said. “This cancer I have up to now is not an invasive cancer, but it would be at some point down the road. I think I have the best of a bad thing.”

Woodbridge mayor ill, will carry on

WOODBRIDGE — Mayor Frank G. Pelzman said yesterday that he has been diagnosed with cancer and will begin immediate treatment.

The 71-year-old mayor said the illness will not deter him from his daily duties.

“I feel fine, the same as I felt two months ago,” Pelzman said in a written statement. “The municipal business of Woodbridge Township will continue as before.”

Singer Eartha Kitt has cancer

SINGING legend Eartha Kitt has revealed she has had colon cancer.
The 79-year-old said she was now fine after surgery in April, when the disease was discovered, according to the New York Post.

She found out she had the disease after going to the doctor because her hand was hurting from carpal tunnel syndrome.

Roger Ebert diagnosed with cancer again

Ebert revealed Thursday he will have an operation June 16 to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland.

“It is not life threatening, and I expect to make a full recovery,” Ebert told the Chicago Sun-Times, where he has been reviewing films since 1967. “I’ll continue to function as a film critic during this time.”
