The 2008 Kaleidoscope of Hope Golf Classic to raise funds for ovarian cancer research.

Announcing the First Annual Kaleidoscope of Hope Golf Classic to be held on June 30, 2008 at the Brooklake CountryClub in Florham Park, New Jersey. The honored guest will be Val Skinner, a six-time winner on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, and currently a golf analyst for CBS Sports and the Golf Channel. Val has been a successful advocate for many years, raising money for The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and her Life Foundation.The Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 by three ovarian cancer survivors, and is dedicated to raising funds for ovarian cancer research and increasing awareness of the symptoms of this silent disease.

Team Sarcoma Initiatives

12-20 July 2008, worldwide. The 2008 Team Sarcoma Initiative is an internationally coordinated set of events to raise awareness of sarcoma and raise funds to support sarcoma research, clinical trials, and patient and family services. The 2008 Initiative consists of the “core” Team Sarcoma Bike Tour (which will be held in Germany and Austria biking along the Danube River from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria during 12-19 July 2008) and various local Team Sarcoma events that will be held worldwide during the same week. Climb to Fight Breast Cancer Ventures!

Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker, Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Elbrus, Volcanoes of Mexico.

“Annually, outdoor enthusiasts join together in honor or memory of loved ones who have battled breast cancer, to ascend some of the world’s most breathtaking peaks.”

• National Men’s Health Week, June 9-15. It is the perfect time to talk to Dad’s about staying healthy. Check out the tips and information– including sending e-cards to the men in your life at the American Cancer Society site to remind them about prevention and early detection.

• The Safeway Father’s Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer is a national event honouring Canadian Dads – past and present. On Sunday, June 15th, 2008.

• The Tenth Annual Do It For Dad. Sunday, June 15th, 2008. Vancouver, BC. “Register your family, your team or yourself today and join hundreds of other runners, walkers and volunteers as we lace up our sneakers for the 10th Annual Do It For Dad at Royal Roads University! All money raised from Do It For Dad stays on Vancouver Island to help The Prostate Centre fund prostate cancer research and help promote prostate health awareness.”

• 4th Annual- Challenge Cancer 5k RUN & RACE Walk & 1.5 Mile Fitness Walk and & Kids Half Mile Challenge. Saturday, June 21, 2008. St. Paul, MN. The race takes place around Como Lake. “Celebrating Active Cancer Survivors.”

Friday again.

Perhaps the most exciting cancer news comes out of M.D. Anderson regarding Metformin and cancer response. Metformin is the most common drug prescribed for Type 2 diabetes. It was observed that patients using Metformin had a lower cancer incidence. Findings are preliminary and M.D. Anderson will soon begin a clinical trial with Metformin and hormonal therapy studying metastatic breast cancer patients who are obese. Marie Curie Cancer Care is sponsoring the Skimmington Castle Bike Ride. “An exciting fun filled cycle challenge, Saturday, June 7 in the beautiful surroundings of the Surrey countryside.Cyclists will set off from the Skimmington Castle public House in Reigate, either on the 47.5 mile route, for those who fancy a challenge, or the 16.5 mile route for those who feel they’d like the day to take a more leisurely pace.

Once you have completed the bike ride you will end up back at the Skimmington Castle pub for a chance to exchange stories over a well earned drink.”

Father’s Day Ride and Stride. Sunday June 15, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

“This Father’s Day, honor Dad and support the fight against prostate cancer. Bring your family and enjoy a morning of fun at beautiful North Park, while supporting Pittsburgh’s leading organizations in the fight to defeat prostate cancer— the Allegheny General Prostate Center and the Western Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Foundation (WPPCF). This event will include a 25K, 50K and 100K bike ride and a 2 mile fun walk. Choose either as your weapon to fight against prostate cancer and a way to celebrate Father’s Day with loved ones. We’re taking aim against this deadly disease.”

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life. Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back. “Relay is fun, fulfilling, and your participation gives strength to our mission to eradicate cancer. Walk with us in this inspirational 12-hour overnight event as we come together and fight to make cancer history. ”

Buy a luminary for five dollars, before or after the event. ” Luminaries are candles that are placed in special bags that bear the names of cancer survivors and loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer. ”

Relay events are scheduled beginning May, 30th. Go to the site to find one near you and to register to participate or volunteer.

Created after her own battle with breast cancer two years ago, Denver’s Cafe Cartago co-owner,

Lynda Larsen created Bald Lady Coffee to raise cancer awareness and funds to assist breast cancer patients going through treatment.
